SCC Monks Trust Fund

The SCC Monks Trust Fund was established as a local and international fundraising activity for SCC Monks to provide additional or urgent support, beyond SCC's regular program, to people living with HIV/AIDS and orphans and vulnerable children. This additional support includes providing:

  • Food support
  • Clothing
  • Educational supplies and bicycles for children
  • Essential drugs
  • Funds for establishing small, sustainable businesses
  • Funerals

Trust Fund Target Areas

While many large, institutional donors are happy to support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Cambodia’s rural poor, it is harder to find similar support for those living in urban poverty. SCC is working in many slum areas in Phnom Penh, characterised by extreme poverty, low employment, high mobility, poor access to education and sanitation, and consequently suffering from many associated social and health problems. For these reasons, HIV/AIDS rates are often very high in these areas.

SCC therefore focuses much of the Trust Fund support in these areas, to ensure that marginalised people in Phnom Penh are not denied access to urgently needed support. The Trust Fund does however also support some beneficiaries and activities in Battambang and Siem Reap, where there are also many needs for this support and where SCC has prevention education, care and support initiatives.

Management of funds

The Trust Fund is managed by SCC Monks and staff who ensure that support is provided to those most in need in the communities that SCC works in. The Trust Fund is also managed to audit standard and a report of the fund’s activities is produced and made available to donors every year.
